He wasted no time in crossing over to her, taking her hand in his and wrapping his arms around her for a brief moment.  He knew they had to go quickly, he could see it on her face.  “Are you… how badly does it hurt?” he asked, concern and worry pervading his tone, obscuring everything else.

“Bad,” she whimpered, “really bad. I ne-I need…can you carry me?” She asked weakly, her eyes so wide and lost. She was terrified and had never looked so young around him, not ever. “It hurts so bad,” she sobbed.

Without another thought, he gently picked her up, not wanting to cause her any more discomfort than absolutely necessary.  The second he knew she was secure he started off, as fast as he could while still making sure she was as okay as she could possibly be.  He didn’t stop, didn’t speak, until they reached the Hospital Wing, where he carried her straight in without stopping and called loudly and insistently for either of the Healers, desperation in his tone.

Bentley came running out of his office, his eyes wide. “Put her on the hospital bed right there,” Bentley said immediately, “and step back, alright? I’ll need you wait outside or at least on the other side of the curtain. Is there anything that happened that I need to know about?” he asked as he hastily grabbed his kit and carefully parted Min’s legs before he went to get his equipment set up.

She nodded with a small attempt at a smile and then paused.  ”Hey, why are you so nice to me?” she asked curiously.  ”You hate students.  And I’m usually kind of a bitch.”

“On occasion, I like to pretend I have a soul,” he drawled before he let out a soft chuckle, “Seriously, though, as much as I hate students, I was still a Gryffindor. It just kind of happens. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m usually kind of a bitch too.”

She let out a short laugh and looked down, cocking an eyebrow.  ”I suppose you are,” she agreed.  ”I guess I should uh… go.  Leave you to… whatever you were doing,” she said, rising to her chair.  She thanked him again and went over to the door, pausing in the doorway and looking back.  ”So, hypothetically, mild sleeping potion.  Bad idea?”

He got up, “If you need anything, just let me know, alright? Yes, hypothetically it is a bad idea, at least right now. In a few days, if your sleeping pattern still hasn’t improved or something else has gone on, come back.” He said, going over and opening up the door for her.

“I just don’t want to go through all that again, you know?” she said with a shrug.  ”I mean, I’ve never been more scared in my life.  I hated it.  I miss being me, but things just keep… happening.”

“No, I get it. You just can’t let it affect you enough where you start to lose yourself again. I believe in you, you just need to believe in yourself,” he said seriously.

“That’s true,” he gave a nod, “but Sam, it’s good you did come by. I don’t think you’re blowing it out of proportion; you have a lot on your plate it sounds like. Just remember that you can’t change some things. Some things you just have to let be.”

He chuckled, “Hey, you know I’m not that kind of guy,” he held up his hands, “Really, I don’t know. I could see you easily become addicted to it. It has the numbing kind of effect so I really don’t think you should. I’m offering, but you couldn’t expect me to give you much.”

She let out a little laugh.  ”Like I said, I’m probably just blowing it out of proportion,” she said, rubbing her eyes a moment.  ”I don’t need to add drug addiction to my list of crap,” she finished with a shrug, swallowing hard.  It was a really tempting idea, though.  Really tempting.  Almost too tempting, but also scary.

“Wow,” he let out a breath once she’d finished, having listened in silence through her entire speel. He had managed to keep track of everything she’d been saying if only because of how fast his son could talk at times. He leaned forward, putting his elbows onto his desk as he contemplated what to say. “That makes sense,” he said softly. “I haven’t been sleeping well either, and I didn’t really know her that well,” he admitted with a sigh. “Just try to take a breather, Samantha. Would you like me to give you something to help you sleep?” He’d only five her one dose at a time; he wasn’t stupid. He knew that it would be a stupid idea to give her more than that.

She looked away and back down at her hands.  ”I don’t know,” she said, suddenly nervous about it.  ”I shouldn’t, should I?”  She looked up at him seriously.  ”And don’t give me that stupid Healer/Patient crap about ‘what I think is best for me’.  It’s best for me if I don’t, isn’t it?”

He chuckled, “Hey, you know I’m not that kind of guy,” he held up his hands, “Really, I don’t know. I could see you easily become addicted to it. It has the numbing kind of effect so I really don’t think you should. I’m offering, but you couldn’t expect me to give you much.”

She looked up at him maybe a little hesitantly.  It had always been hard for her to express these kinds of things.  Even with Ferdinand, she still sucked at it.  ”Where do I start?” she said with a little forced laugh.  ”Um, I guess, everything’s just kind of starting to pile up.  I’m probably just blowing things out of proportion…” she said, looking down at her hands.  She sighed a moment and looked up at the ceiling as she spoke.  ”Well, my boyfriend may or may not have cheated on me, then Natalie died, then Ferdinand got put in Azkaban and I went to see him and everything was great for a moment,” she paused for about half a second before she continued.  Once she’d gotten going it was hard to stop.  ”Then I came back, saw my boyfriend, went back to Azkaban, broke Ferdinand’s heart, then he got really sick and sent to St Mungos and he was dying and Min and I were trying to help him and Axel got drunk and really upset and I’m worrying about Mason because of everything happening at home and stuff and—” she broke off, looking down at him, realizing how fast she’d been whipping through it.  ”And I’m just feeling really… I don’t know.  Unbalanced.  I haven’t slept properly since Natalie.”

She kept her eyes off him, not because of embarrassment or discomfort, mostly just because she was tired.  ”Um, your office, if you don’t mind,” she said quietly, looking up at him.  She tugged on the ends of her sleeves absentmindedly and followed him into his office, casting an eye over the various papers on his desk without really taking any of it in.

“No, I don’t mind,” he replied simply, walking into his office without another word. He reached out and closed the door once she’d entered, going over and sitting down at his desk, leaning back a bit as he looked up at her, “What’s been going on, Samantha?” he asked, still watching her carefully.
